Prom Makeup

Thu May 21, 2009, 5:21 PM
(if it's already past your prom, sorry I know I'm getting ot this note a little late)

Well as it's around that time of year for all you kids in school I've gotten several messages from people asking if I could throw something together for them for prom. As much as I would love to be able to do a look for every one that asks me. I simply don't have the time right now. I have a bunch of stuff going on since I'm going to be moving and switching jobs in the fall.

Also on a side note, I'm really not sure you want to come to me for prom makeup XD. I come form a theater kid background and so my looks tend to be really over the top. I'd hate to give you a look that makes you look like a clown at prom.

So on that note I give you a link to a video by Josh, aka Petrilude, on prom wedding makeup. He knows his stuff when it comes to this. So yeah give it a click, take from it what you can and I hope that it helps you all ^_^. He also has a TON of Avant Guard stuff as well as fun makeup, so if you enjoy my stuff you should give some of his other tutorials a glance.

Question. What eyeshadow base/s do you use for your blue eyeshadows? I've got Urban Decay's Primer Potion and MAC paint in bare canvas and moss scape, but none of them seem to pick up the colors I've got. I don't know how often you use MAC, but the blues I'm trying to use are the most stubborn colors on the planet.

what blue eye shadows are you using?

With some of my stubborn blues I actually use a white kohl eye liner pencil as a base. You'll still want to use UDPP or some other primer first because the texture of the pencil will lead it to crease sooner if you don't. Also, don't use a lot of the pencil. I typically scribble a bit on my lid and blend it out with a brush so my lid has a bit of an opaque white color. The bit of white and tacky texture of the pencil should help a lot.

I keep hearing that white bases are the best options. I'm using some frosts and a satin eyeshadow by MAC. You may have heard of Electric Eel? Stubborn and it won't go on pretty as hard as I try. MAC just came out with some Chromalines which seem to be incredible as a base and a liner. I'm debating between a white one of those or Make Up Forever's white flash eyeshadow. It's a cream, and like the pencil, it'd need a base.
